Day 8: Tejos Lodge and Tapanti Mountains

Today I went up to Tejos Lodge with Josue, Natalia and Sophie. They are all cousins and a family member owns the Lodge. We rode up Tico style, in the back of a truck and even picked up some hitchikers along the way, even more Tico style.

We stopped along the way to visit some people in Paraiso.

It is so beautiful up there, with sweeping views of the river and the valleys.

Tejos Lodge is very nice and they have a restaurant, cabinas, trout ponds and a stable, complete with puppies.

We went hiking through the mountains and saw some Glass-winged butterflies and Josue showed me some Leaf-cutter ants. I got super excited and they probably just thought I was being a crazy gringa.

Ok, you see that town in the back of the valley in the first landscape shot? Yeah we had to walk to that because we didn't have a ride back. It's about 6 km. Luckily it's mostly downhill. On the way, we ran into a Blue grey tanger, a unoccupied tracktor and lots of waterways.

We finally made it to Paraiso, which has the requisite soccer field next to the church in the middle of town.
